It’s so easy these days to get hold of your favourite South African food and treats. In Perth we are lucky enough to have a South African shop within a few kilometres no matter where you live! But when it comes to some uniquely South African gifts or products, these can be a little harder to source.
Enter the newest online South African shop – Spaza.
Run by Jaco and his wife Tanja, Spaza has recently entered the world of South African goods and has a great selection of items with a distinctly South African flavour. The couple are based near Melbourne and have been since 2008. Originally from Centurion, they decided to start Spaza as they were finding it increasingly difficult to source South African products and gifts that weren’t food related.
Tanja takes care of the day to day running of the business as well as the marketing side. Jaco still works a full time job alongside his technical involvement with Spaza such as making sure the website is up and running.
Jaco says ‘We set out to bring great SA brands to Australia for those expats wanting a little piece of home, or family and friends in SA looking for a special gift for their loved ones in Australia.’
Their range of products includes men’s women’s and kids clothing and accessories, home and gift wares, music, dvds and books.
Their website is perfect not only for South Africans living in Australia or New Zealand, but also family and friends in South Africa looking to buy a uniquely SA gift for their loved ones here. It’s great for anyone who has their doubts about the South African postal system, and let’s face it, that’s pretty much everyone!
Some of their most popular items include South African movies, especially Afrikaans movies. Their Vents Brull t-shirts have also been flying off their virtual shelves and looking at the awesome designs from the Cape Town based company, it’s not hard to see why. I love this Men’s Surfari Kombi Hoodie!
They’re always expanding their range of products and their ultimate aim is to become the Australian version of Takealot and have a massive range of South African goods which will not only appeal to South Africans but Australians as well.
So if you’re looking for something just a little bit different for a gift for a special someone, or want to spoil yourself, head over to Spaza and start shopping!
