This coming Saturday (28 March) one of the biggest South African festivals to hit Australia will be happening right here in Perth. The TIA Festival (This Is Africa) has gathered a whole host of major sponsors and looks set to provide an awesome day (and night!) out. Event partners include Cape To Cairo, Copper & Oak, Mufasa Deli and many more!
One of the organisers, Dean Hildebrand, has told me they cannot wait to bring this event to the people of Perth and the event isn’t just aimed at South Africans, but anyone looking for a great festival the likes of which has not been seen before.
This event is for ages 18 and over only, and there has been much chatter about this in the South African community as there are many families who would have loved to attend but have got children who are under age. Dean says that allowing under 18s and the sale of alcohol requires a much higher level of security and for the first festival they want to get it off the ground with a bit less red tape. BUT the good news for all the families out there (including me!) is that they are hoping to be able to bring us a family friendly event in the near future as well! So watch this space…
On Saturday there will be food and drink on offer and ALL of it is Proudly South African – from boerie rolls to bunny chow, Castles to Savannas and Klippies to Crème Soda!
There are five fabulous live music acts lined up as well – these include Shangara Jive, Village Vibes, DJ Mike de Wet (who recently played at Perth’s Future Music Festival) and Sandy Jones and the Mad Agents.
The festival is also partnering with The Soar Project Inc and they will be benefiting from the event too, so not only will you have a great time but you will be supporting an amazing African charity too.
Tickets can be bought online for $39.90 and entry includes a free boerewors roll (that’s a hot dog to any Aussies reading this!) and drink.
TIA Festival has also teamed up with Uber to offer free rides (up to $20 each way) to anyone attending the event! So no need to worry about who will be your designated driver if everyone wants to have a Castle or two!
There are going to be a variety of prize giveaways on the day as well, including Western Force prizes, and some Force players will also be there on the day. The best dressed woman will also win a $2000 pearl and diamond necklace, so ladies get your glad rags on!
