We recently made a return visit for breakfast at Padbury’s in Guildford, and if you haven’t been yet, this charming little gem should definitely be on your Perth foodie list — especially if you love a good brunch with a side of history.
We’ve eaten here before, but this time felt different in the best way possible — maybe it was the window seat, or maybe it was the fact that everything felt a bit more relaxed and quieter compared to our last visit. Either way, it was one of those mornings where everything just worked: great coffee, amazing food, and that lovely buzz of a heritage building filled with happy diners.

A Touch of WA History
One of the things I love about Guildford is that it feels like stepping into a storybook — and Padbury’s fits right in. Housed in one of the oldest heritage buildings in town (dating back to the 1860s!), Padbury’s has this beautiful mix of rustic charm and modern elegance. Think exposed brick, pressed tin ceilings, soft lighting, and lots of character created by the many recycled materials used throughout the restaurant.
Being a bit of a history nerd for most of my life, I always love finding these historic gems in Perth — it really adds to the atmosphere when you know you’re eating in a building that’s been part of the community for over 150 years. Padbury’s Stores and Residence is actually one of the oldest surviving buildings in Guildford – both residential and commercial, and is listed as a Heritage Place on the State Register.
Now Let’s Talk Food…
Let me just say one thing: their famous lemon meringue pancakes ($24) are out of this world. I’m someone who has to be in the mood for something sweet that early in the day, and on our first visit I definitely was.
They’re beautifully plated (you can see why they go viral on Instagram), but also genuinely delicious. Light, fluffy pancakes topped with torched meringue and the perfect zingy lemon curd. It’s basically dessert for breakfast, and I have zero regrets.
On our more recent brunch, I went for scrambled eggs on toast ($13) and stole all the veggies sides from Mr C’s Big Paddy’s Breakfast ($29).
Mini C (who isn’t so mini these days!) went for scrambled eggs, and he takes his eggs very seriously. Let’s just say he gave them two enthusiastic thumbs up – and from a 14-year-old self-proclaimed scrambled egg connoisseur, that’s saying something. Soft, buttery, perfectly cooked.
He also added a side of hash brown ($7), and these are not your average frozen hash brown. They are home made and pretty much dinner plate size, folded over to look like a wrap. Super crispy and delicious – if you love hash browns, this is the ultimate hash brown in Perth!
It took all my willpower to not grab one of their famous cinnamon scrolls to share. I’m not exaggerating when I say they are the biggest cinnamon scrolls I’ve ever seen. If you’re after a pastry, it’s probably going to be just as filling as the Big Paddy’s Breakfast.
Atmosphere & Vibes
Compared to our last visit, this one felt a lot more relaxed noise-wise. We lucked out with a lovely window seat, which gave us the perfect view of the cute street outside and a nice little pocket of sunshine. The service was friendly and unhurried, and the whole space had that warm, welcoming feel that makes you want to linger just a bit longer.
I’d say it’s a great spot whether you’re catching up with friends, celebrating something special, or just treating yourself to a quality breakfast in a beautiful setting.
They have a few tables outside so if you prefer dining alfresco, make sure to ask for a table outside when you book as they can be popular, especially for those bringing their 4-legged friends along.

- Parking: There’s a small free car park alongside the building, plus free street parking nearby, but it can get busy on weekends, so aim to arrive a little early.
If you’re thinking of going on a weekend, I’d recommend booking ahead — it does get busy, and it’s easy to see why.
My Final Thoughts
Padbury’s has become one of those places we know we’ll keep going back to. The food is memorable, the service is consistently friendly, and the beautiful building itself adds something a bit special to the whole experience.
Whether you’re a Perth local or you’ve got visitors in town, it’s definitely one of those spots that delivers every time. Plus, it’s just a few minutes drive from DFO so great to fuel yourself for a bargain hunting shopping spree. It’s a good thing we don’t live closer! Not to mention Copper & Oak Guildford is a short stroll away so you can stock up on your favourite South African drops while you’re there!
We’ll definitely be back — and next time, I might just order those pancakes again.
