Spring is when Perth really comes alive: blossoms, festivals, wildlife, colours everywhere.
If you’re looking to get out, get inspired, or simply enjoy some fresh air, you’re in luck!
I’ve put together a list of 14 fun things to do in spring in Perth this year – here are just some of the can’t-miss events and outings in Perth & surrounds for Spring 2025.
14 Fun Things To Do In Spring In Perth
1. Araluen Tulip Festival – 22 August to 10 October 2025
At Araluen Botanic Park in Roleystone, the tulip festival is a seasonal extravaganza. Think hundreds of thousands of tulips, sweeping paths lined with daffodils, hyacinths, maybe even a few surprise bulbs depending on the weather.
The ambience is peaceful yet joyful — live music weekends, food pop-ups, heritage train rides, photographic corners. The hills are lush and the air crisp in the morning. Ideal early in the week or just after opening if you want to avoid big crowds.
Don’t forget sun protection: shade is limited in some viewing areas, so hat, sunscreen, water, good walking shoes are a must.
2. Everlasting Kings Park Festival – 12 to 29 September 2025
Staged in Kings Park & Bold Park, the Everlasting Kings Park Festival (offers one of the best wildflower displays in the region. The Botanic Garden display is just one part — there are guided walks, botanical talks, art installations, and storytelling.
The everlastings (those dried wildflowers) are unbelievable in colour and texture; you’ll see waist-high banks of them along bush tracks. It’s perfect for wandering early mornings while light is soft, or afternoons when the setting sun gives everything a golden glow.
Check the wildflower bloom reports online so you time it when the displays are at their best.
3. Whale Watching – September through November
Late winter and spring is when humpback whales begin their migration along the WA coast. There are tours from Perth, Hillarys, and other coastal towns. Morning tours tend to be better for calm seas and visibility.
Bring layers (sea breezes can bite), camera/binoculars, maybe even a light jacket. If you’re keen, choose a tour that has marine interpreters so you learn about the whales’ behaviours, the migration, and the local marine ecology. It’s a powerful experience being out at sea, seeing these giants breach or tail-slap.
And if you get seasick like me, don’t forget your anti-nausea meds! The waters can get pretty choppy out there.
4. Take a Wildflower Road Trip
Wildflowers are everywhere in spring, but the best spots are further afield from Perth: the Wheatbelt, Stirling Ranges, parts of the Great Southern, roadside reserves.
Plan carefully: bloom timing depends heavily on winter rains, temperature, and soil. Take maps, make overnight plans in small towns, stay flexible. Some roads are unsealed — check the condition.
Along the way you can stop at farm stalls for local produce, old country pubs, lookouts. The changing landscape — golden fields, purple patches of bluebells, pinks and whites of orchids — is jaw-dropping and reminds you how varied WA is.
5. York Motor Show – Sunday 5 October 2025
The York Motor Show is a standout for car enthusiasts and families alike. Classic cars, hot rods, vintage motorcycles, and a few surprises mixed in. Expect food trucks, live entertainment, lots of people who love tinkering and old motors.
York is charming — heritage buildings, quiet streets, good places to stay or eat. I loved our day trip here last year, quaint buildings, cute shops and views for miles!
If you time it, you can make a weekend of it: drive out, look around, attend the show, stay the night in a local B&B, maybe combine with a wildflower or canola field drive.
6. Strawberry Picking
Seasonally, many orchards around Perth open for strawberry picking in spring (usually late September through October, depending on weather). It’s delightful: picking your own fruit, the scent, fresh berries that taste like nothing you get in shops. Find orchards close to your area; some may require bookings.
Go early in the day (cooler, less likely to have been picked over), bring containers, sunscreen, and plan for staying fresh (cool box helps). Afterwards, fresh strawberries, strawberry jam, strawberries in dessert — small pleasures that really feel like spring.
7. S&R Orchard Blossom Festival – 12 to 29 September 2025
Blossom festivals tend to be brief but mesmerising — fruit tree blossoms (cherry, stone fruit, etc.) transform orchards into tunnels or carpets of delicate blooms.
The S&R Orchard Blossom Festival features local produce, markets, food stalls, teacup rides, an animal far, and other free children’s activities. Bring your camera, because the light through blossoms is beautiful throughout the day.
Keep an eye on the orchard’s announcements: blossom timing shifts with temperatures. Early mornings are perfect for photography and seeing the dewdrops.
8. PetTeet Park Canola Fields
Golden canola fields are one of spring’s great gifts in WA. PetTeet Park (if the fields are flowering) is one such place.
The yellow is intense — bright gold under blue sky, sometimes with bees buzzing around, maybe clouds overhead. Best viewed in mid-morning or golden hour in the evening. These scenic spots are ideal for slow drives, photo stops, picnic lunches.
Just remember to please be respectful: many fields are working agricultural land, so stay on public roads or allowed access points, and don’t trespass.
9. Perth Royal Show – 27 September to 4 October 2025
The Perth Royal Show is one of Perth’s biggest and most iconic events: big fair rides, agricultural displays, livestock competitions, baking shows, wood chopping, crafts, food, fireworks.
It’s loud, bustling, colourful — a piece of traditional Australian show culture.
Great for families, for discovering new and local foods, for seeing rural-agricultural life up close. Buy tickets in advance if possible; parking and traffic can get busy so public transport is highly recommended.
10. Perth Hills WanderFest – 26 to 29 September 2025
If you like walking, nature, and being outdoors, this is a top pick. Trails in the Perth Hills open for WanderFest often include adventurous bush paths, lookouts, guided walks, flora observation.
Perth Hills WanderFest is your invitation to experience everything the Perth Hills has to offer – a five-trail hiking series spanning Armadale, Kalamunda, Mundaring, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, and Gidgegannup. Spots are limited and you need to prebook.
Spring’s cooler mornings and late afternoons are golden. Pack water, hat, comfy shoes, maybe insect repellent. It’s a chance to see wildflowers, enjoy quiet moments, breathe. Sometimes there are food stalls near trailheads, small art or photography exhibits along the way.
11. Bloom Joondalup – 26 September to 26 October 2025
This one’s new and exciting: immersive art + lights + sound. Held at Central Park, Bloom Joondalup features large-scale projections, laser works, interactive installations, a narrative with a blue-banded bee weaving through glowing blooms.
Entry times start from 18:45 each night with low sensory sessions available, and last sessions starting at 21:45. It’s perfect for those who enjoy art, technology, city lights, something whimsical or romantic. Plus doing light-shows under trees, galleries in the dark, gives a very different sense of place in spring.
12. York Festival – 26 September to 5 October 2025
The York Festival has is all – galleries, live music, theatre, dance, workshops, heritage walks. One of the main events is “TWANG” at York Racecourse on Sunday 28 September, a bold new live music experience and the official launch of the Western Australian National Guitar Festival, which will roll out in full in 2026.
You can use this as a chance to explore York’s art scene, eat in local cafés, and soak up this historic town.
13. Waroona TroutFest – Saturday 4 October
TroutFest in Waroona is free family-friendly celebration of fishing, the outdoors, and community spirit.
Activities include hand-releasing rainbow & brown trout into the weir, getting freshwater fishing tips from the pros, trade stalls, information displays and food outlets.
There’s a free shuttle bus service from Waroona Recreation and Aquatic Centre too. It’s great for a relaxed weekend escape.
14. Groundswell Festival – Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 October 2025
Groundswell is one of WA’s biggest free weekend events combining surf, skate, BMX, 3×3 streetball, stunt demos, live music, local artists and interactive street art, markets, wellness experiences and food trucks. There are “have-a-go” sessions, competitions (e.g. skate bowl, BMX rail jam, 3×3 basketball) for various skill levels. It’s loud, energetic, colourful. Great for hanging out with mates, getting messy, watching sport, wandering food trucks at sunset.
Groundswell’s wellness and sustainability program is loaded with free workshops, ocean dips, yoga, mindful crafts, meditation, breath work, coastal clean-ups and everything in between to encourage a healthy lifestyle, mind, body and earth.
Spring 2025 in and around Perth is shaping up to be packed with creativity, colour, nature, and fun. Whether you’re chasing wildflowers, art-at-night, festivals, or something more laid-back like orchard strolls or berry picks — there’s so much to dive into.
