Outdoor Cinemas In Perth – Rooftop Movies

Rooftop Movies Perth - Outdoor Cinemas Perth

One of the things I love about summer here are all the different outdoor cinemas in Perth that pop up during the warmer months of the year. One of my favourites is Rooftop Movies in the heart of Northbridge. If you haven’t been yet, you need to add this to your Perth bucket list!

Where Is Rooftop Movies?

Set on the 6th floor of the Roe Street car park, Rooftop Movies has some of the most spectacular views over the city. Doors open at 6pm so you can get there in time to watch the sunset over the city – it’s just gorgeous and makes for some pretty good Instagramming (follow me here)!

It’s part of the Fringe Festival so the set up is eclectic but super cool. Lights are strung all around the venue giving it a twinkly look and fake grass makes it seem like you’re in a park somewhere. Giving it a tropical feel are palm trees lining the cinema area which has comfy bean bags and beach-style deck chairs for movie-goers (included in the cost of your ticket and plenty for everyone).

Food & Drink At Rooftop Movies

Like many events around Perth, you’re allowed to take your own food and soft drinks to Rooftop Movies. As it’s a licensed venue however, you can’t take your own alcohol.

It is available to buy once you’re inside, but it’s at the usual Perth prices – beers, ciders, and wines start from $9 (the wines are pretty small servings) and a bottle of wine will set you back a hefty $40.

They’ve also got a retro candy bar where you can get snacks like sweets, chocolate and popcorn. Popcorn is $5 for an average size box. Sweets and chocolates are $3-5, crisps are $4 and they have some local gourmet La Paleta ice creams available for $4.50.

When it comes to food options, this year Rooftop Movies has teamed up with Dough Pizza. They’ve got a choice of 3 pizzas ranging from $15-19, as well as rosemary fries for $8 and arancini for $10 (vegetarian) or $12 (meat). The bar also has cheese and dessert boards for $25 but I didn’t see any of these on the night we went.

What’s On At Rooftop Movies

Rooftop Movies run 4 programs each year and they release the programs throughout the season. This season started in November and it closes at the end of March. So if you haven’t been yet you’ve still got more than a month to check it out. You can see the remaining line up here but it includes Black Panther, Lady Bird, The Post, The Shape of Water, The Greatest Showman and many more.

Rooftop Movies Perth - Tickets

We’ve been to Rooftop Movies a few times over the years and it’s definitely one of my favourite outdoor cinemas in Perth. The vibe is awesome, the views are spectacular, and they show some great movies too, especially around Oscar season. Tickets are $16 if you book online or $17 at the door (if there are any left). You can park in the Roe Street car park for $10 for the evening if you enter after 6pm, which makes it super easy getting in and out of the city.

Rooftop Movies Perth - What's On

If you’re looking for a quirky film, head to Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which is what we saw a couple of weeks ago. I absolutely loved it – stellar cast and an interesting story based on interpersonal relationships between all the characters of this small town. It’s showing again on 20 March at Rooftop Movies so grab your tickets while you can!
