The Meat & Wine Co ‘Cape Point’

The Meat & Wine Co Cape Point - Reeva Cutting

It’s no secret that I’ve been a fan of The Meat & Wine Co in Perth since it opened back in 2018.

Well, I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was that they were opening a new venue on the site of the iconic Coco’s restaurant in South Perth. Yes, it’s a bit further to travel for us (being NOR) compared to the one in the city, but it went straight to the top of our new dining list as soon as the news was out!

They shared some insights into their new location, menu and design inspiration for The Meat & Wine Co ‘Cape Point’ – read all about it now!

The Meat & Wine Co ‘Cape Point’

The Meat & Wine Co – New South Perth Location

Opened officially on 12th December 2025, The Meat & Wine Co unveiled its most breathtaking venue yet at the iconic waterfront address of 81–85 The Esplanade, South Perth, formerly home to the legendary Coco’s restaurant.

This flagship destination promises more than just a meal. With uninterrupted views of the Swan River and the Perth CBD skyline, The Meat & Wine Co ‘Cape Point’ offers a 200-seat experience that blends premium dining with architectural storytelling. Guests will enjoy a dual-menu concept featuring The Meat & Wine Co’s signature à la carte offerings alongside a rich, traditional ‘Safari’ menu, paying homage to the brand’s African heritage.

Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group (BHG), the powerhouse behind The Meat & Wine Co, 6HEAD and Hunter & Barrel (another one of our favourites!). The Meat & Wine Co has long been committed to securing iconic dining locations. When news broke that Coco’s site was becoming available, Seagrass moved swiftly to secure this coveted waterfront site.

“South Perth has a proud legacy of exceptional restaurants,” says Laurie Thorpe, State Manager WA. “Building on the success of our Perth CBD venue, we’re confident the South Perth venue will elevate the local dining scene. We’re excited to create a destination that resonates with both locals and visitors, just as Coco’s did for so many years.”

The Meat & Wine Co – A Bold South African Inspired Design

A vision rooted in place & culture, by award-winning designers, COOOP.co, the venue draws inspiration from the rugged southern coasts of South Africa. The name ‘Cape Point’ echoes the meeting place of two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian, mirroring the fusion of South African soul and Australian spirit that defines the space.

Crafted for connection, the venue’s design centres around a communal fire pit, symbolising ancient traditions of gathering and storytelling. “This restaurant is anchored by a central fire circle,” says Callie Van Der Merwe, founder of COOOP.co. “It pays homage to the earliest communal hubs where people came together to share stories, pass on knowledge, and build social bonds.”

A full refurbishment has transformed the space to reflect the premium nature of The Meat & Wine Co brand, including the addition of an exclusive 12-seat private dining room named the King Shaka Room.

The Meat & Wine Co – The Food

The Meat & Wine Co’s new South Perth location, will proudly showcase its signature African-inspired à la carte menu, alongside AGED, for a premium steak experience and a curated selection of 1,2,3 course weekday lunch options. Each dish is a celebration of culinary heritage, crafted with premium ingredients and served with a full beverage list featuring Western Australia’s finest wines, tailored to local palates.

Exclusive to the South Perth location is the debut of the Safari Menu, a narrative-led culinary journey that explores the flavours, spices, and traditions of South African safari cuisine. This immersive menu brings to life the stories and soul of the region through bold, authentic dishes.

South African-born Chef Sean Hall, Head of Culinary, will also introduce a selection of nostalgic dishes he calls’ ‘food from the home’’. Highlights include the iconic Bunny Chow, a hearty lamb curry with potato and aromatic spices served in a hollowed-out loaf; Lamb Potjie a slow-braised delicacy cooked in cast iron over open flame, layered with a choice of yellow rice or pap; and a Safari Tasting Platter showcasing 4 dishes suited for sharing this nostalgic culinary experience.

The Meat & Wine Co – The Drinks

The drinks menu is designed to elevate every occasion. The wine list pays tribute to some of the world’s most celebrated varietals, hand-selected for their flavour, quality, and ability to pair beautifully with the menu. Guests can expect standout selections from Australia’s top producers, including exceptional labels from Western Australia and South Africa.

Additionally, The Meat & Wine Co South Perth will feature a ‘Cellar Release’ wine page showcasing premium wines hand selected by Joseph Moussa ‘National Beverage Manager’. This select list also offers a range of premium and limited wines from WA winemakers. Unique to the opening will be a special feature from Vasse Felix showcasing both white and red wines, including the iconic ‘Tom Cullity Cabernet Malbec’.

Their selection of South African wines includes Thelema, Radford Dale, Klein Constantia, and the ever-popular Boekenhoutskloof Chocolate Block.

As The Meat & Wine Co steps into the legendary shoes of Coco’s, it marks a bold new chapter in Perth’s dining landscape, welcoming both familiar faces and new guests to experience the warmth, flavour, and spirit of South African-inspired hospitality, reimagined for the heart of South Perth.
