Every fortnight a beautiful little farmers market pops up in Duncraig, the Poynter Farmers Market. It is held at Poynter Primary School, hence the name, just off Beach Road in Duncraig.
There are several regular stalls and rotating guest stalls. The regulars include Valley View Orchard with freshly picked apples, pears, oranges, lemons, huge avocados and more.
GMT produce have a selection of the freshest vegetables you have seen, including ones you may not have come across before. All fruit and veg is picked the day before the market, so the time from tree to table is minimal.
Prices are noticeably cheaper than the supermarkets as well!
Il Panino bakery have a wide range of breads and treats, and The Bread Expert stocks a variety of delicious French pastries and breads, try the huge pain au chocolats for $3 and massive soft pretzels for just $2 if you don’t have a sweet tooth.
There are also stalls which stock organic fruit and veg, free range eggs at $6 for 12, grass fed beef, home made cheeses from Ringwould Dairy and beautiful fresh flowers, including Proteas, from Valley Flowers.
The guest stalls range from raw honey, Thai food, Mexican salsas, Jamaican condiments, local olive oils, Indian chutneys and sauces (pretty sure these are Indian South Africans too!), gourmet popcorn, Solafruit dried fruits and much more.
If you come on an empty stomach there is a coffee shop, cupcakes available from the school P&C stall, freshly grilled bacon and egg rolls, warm sausage rolls and pies and a cute little Caravan selling amazing French crepes, complete with an authentic accordion player outside!
Plenty of parking is available on site, and the market runs every fortnight from 9am to 12pm. The next market is this Saturday 11 April so why not head down, soak up the atmosphere and fill your fridge and pantry with the freshest goods around!
