I picked up a copy of the amazing Perth Fringe World Festival program from my local library the other day and was very excited to see that one of the events this year is ‘The 3 South Africans’. The Fringe World Festival is held over a whole month from 22 January to 21 February at venues across Perth city as well as in Midland, which is its own festival almost, called Midlandia.
Comedy Lounge is bringing us 3 of South Africa’s top comedians of today, Rob van Vuuren, Kurt Schoonraad and Dave Levinsohn for one spectacular event for 5 shows over 3 days as part of the 2016 Fringe World Festival in Perth.
Rob van Vuuren has been in acting and comedy since graduating from Rhodes back in the 1990s. He is known for many things including Corne & Twakkie and The Most Amazing Show which garnered a cult following and spanned several seasons in the early 2000s. His foray into stand-up comedy didn’t happen until 2008 however, but ever since then he has been a headliner for many South African comedy events and has won a host of awards along the way. Oh and he is pretty famous for pranking the all-time great South African prankster Leon Schuster.
Dave Levinsohn has been in stand-up comedy for many years and has also appeared in countless South African and international commercials. He was one of the first South Africans to appear at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was also a head writer on Mnet’s Late Night With Trevor Noah back in 2010 (you know, before Trevor became an international superstar).
Kurt Schoonraad hails from Mitchell’s Plain, which he directly credits as developing his comedic talent. Apart from making a name as a stand up comedian, he has appeared in many TV shows including the popular ‘Going Nowhere Slowly’ and hosting South African game shows as well.
Tickets to this amazing line up can be purchased online here and cost $34.50. There are 2 shows on Friday 19 February, 2 shows on Saturday 20 February and one show on the final day of the festival, Sunday 21 February. Get your tickets now as it’s sure to be a sell out!
You can also win tickets to the show on our Facebook page – competition closes Tuesday 16 February and the rules are on the Facebook post.
And don’t forget you can head to Baby Mammoth before or after the show, and if you show them your Fringe World Festival tickets, you get your first drink on the house! I certainly will be! You can read what I thought about my recent visit to Baby Mammoth here.
