Hi, I’m Reeva Cutting!
Originally from Durban (go Sharks!), I have also lived in Johannesburg, Cape Town, France, London, Oxford, Cheltenham, Gloucester (and a whole heap of chocolate box villages in between) and am now happily settled in Perth, Australia.
My mission is to help ensure your emigration journey as smooth as it can be and inspire you to take the leap and make the move to Australia.
I’m an expat blogger, business owner, mother, wife, movie and book nerd, beach-lover, and all round crazy horse lady (if you love horses too you can follow my horse account on Insta here).
My Emigration Journey
As someone who has emigrated, not once, not twice, but three times, I know exactly what you’re going through. The ups and downs of emigration are faster than a rollercoaster and I’ve been there – three times!
I lived in South Africa until I finished my degree at UCT in 2002. I emigrated to France, and then on to England in 2003, where I met and married my English husband. We were happy enough until our son was born and that’s when we started looking at living overseas – preferably somewhere a little bit sunnier.
After jokingly asking Mr C if he would ever move to Australia while watching an episode of Wanted Down Under, I nearly fell off my chair when he said yes!
After a long two year migration journey, we landed in Perth in 2013 and have not looked back since.
How It Started
I set up a Facebook group called Proudly South African in Perth & WA in December 2013 after getting increasingly frustrated with all the drama on the existing Facebook groups for South Africans in Australia. It grew quickly and attracted many members who clearly felt the same way as I did.
At the start of 2015 we reached 3,000 members and so I decided to take the next step and set up this blog where I could share my knowledge and experiences with not just members of the group, but anyone interested in moving to or living in Australia.
