Do you want to start a new life Australia?

Do you dream of a new life Down Under but are confused by all the different rules and regulations?

Do you want to start a new life in Australia but feel unsure if it’s the right decision for you and your family?

Then you’ve come to the right place.

Proudly South African In Perth aims to share valuable information about moving to Australia.

Having done it myself, I know the entire spectrum of emotions you are going through before, during and after you make the move.

What Will You Get From Me?

On this blog, you’ll get practical advice about the many different aspects of migrating, such as the visa process, shipping and travel arrangements.

I also write about the emotional aspects that come with moving countries and help you to establish a new life in Australia.

Being Perth based, I also share awesome places to go, fun things to do and exciting events to check out.

While I am based in Perth, much of the information I share can be applicable no matter where you in Australia you are heading.

Who Am I?

I’m Reeva and I lived in South Africa until I finished my degree at UCT. I migrated to England in 2003 and after 8 years just could not take the cold anymore! I took a look at where I could live that was warm – and settled on Perth, Australia!

After a long two year migration journey, I arrived with my family in Perth in 2013 and have not looked back since. I am married to an amazing and supportive Englishman (who is really an honorary South African!) and we have a gorgeous son who keeps us super busy.

I set up a Facebook group called Proudly South African in Perth & WA in December 2013 after getting increasingly frustrated with all the drama on the existing Facebook groups for South Africans in Australia. It grew quickly (I had 400 people join in the first 2 hours!) and attracted many members who clearly felt the same way as I did.

Early on in 2015 we reached 3000 members and so I decided to take the next step and set up this blog where I could share my knowledge and experiences with not just members of the group, but anyone interested in moving to or living in Western Australia. As of June 2021, we have over 9,000 members.

My articles and interviews have appeared in The Sunday Times, The South African, SA People, Merise Magazine, Fin24Expat Focus, MoveHub and Expat Arrivals.

I’ve also been featured on both TV and podcasts. You can:

– listen me on the South African Ex-Pats podcast talking about moving to and living in Perth,

– listen to me on episode 79 of The Thoughtful Travel Podcast talking about cultural differences in Australia,

– listen to episode 94 of The Thoughtful Travel podcast talking about how travel changes kids,

– and watch my TV appearance on Today Tonight here:
