My Favourite Things To Do In Perth At Christmas

Things To Do In Perth At Christmas

Christmas is one of my favourite times of year and I’m always on the lookout for new and fun things to do in Perth at Christmas.

After a few years of being stuck at home and not attend large events, it’s exciting to be able to get back out and explore Perth and all it’s Christmas entertainment and events.

Here are some of my favourite things to do in Perth at Christmas – can you find something new to add to your Christmas activity list?

My Favourite Things To Do In Perth At Christmas

1. City Of Perth Christmas Lights Trail

I don’t know about you, but for me there is nothing quite like the dazzling Christmas street light displays and colourful decorations that says “Christmas has arrived!” Every year the City of Perth switch on their joyous street lights announcing the arrival of this special time of year.

And if last year’s display of half a million lights and 500 decorations, plus the countless events and festivities held throughout the city, was anything to go by, I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us this Christmas season!

As soon as the sun goes down during this festive season, put on your walking shoes, grab the kids and head for the Perth city centre and let the “Spirit of Christmas” do its thing. A good starting point would be the Digital Tower in the heart of the city. From there, just follow the bright lights and decorations on the map on the Visit Perth website or download the Perth Trails app and follow along on your phone.

Taking the Perth Christmas Lights Trail, is a truly magical way to create some family memories and welcome the joys of Christmas!

2. Peddle Perth Christmas Lights Tour, Perth City

A more speedy and fun way of enjoying the Christmas Lights is by booking a Peddle Perth Christmas Light Tour through the CBD.

You’ll see a lot more in just 45 minutes, being personally chauffeured on your private “chariot” than you would on foot. While you’re taking in the spectacle of the lights and decorations without moving a muscle, the sounds of your favourite Christmas Carols from your bike’s speakers will add a little charm and nostalgia. This is honestly one of my favourite things to do in Perth at Christmas.

What a beautiful family tradition this could be! Don’t forget to bring the grandparentals for the fun too. For this season’s prices, bookings and general info, visit them online.

3. Christmas Lights Cruise with Mandurah Cruises

Why not do something completely different this festive season and experience the spectacular Christmas Lights of the Mandurah canals aboard one of the many cruise boats in the Mandurah Cruises fleet.

Dress up in festive gear and bring your camera to capture the thousands of lights from the elaborately decorated canal homes shimmering across the lit-up winding waterways and jetties.

Christmas carols and live musicians provide further entertainment, and even Santa pays a visit to thrill the kids. Drinks and snacks are available to purchase on selected boats, or you can bring your own. There are several cruise on offer, including the New Year’s Cruise, which includes a spectacular fireworks display, at midnight of course.

For the full list of cruises, boats, prices, bookings, etc., visit their website.

4. Twilight Hawkers Markets, Perth City

Christmas time is chill time, so why not take a break from cooking this Friday, and head to the Twilight Hawker’s Market in Forrest Place in the heart of the city for a feast for all the senses?

Ideal for a family outing or date night, they cater for all palates and appetites. Whether you’re a carnivore, herbivore, junk foodie or health freak, lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, whatever else intolerant, crave spicy food, Italian, French, Indonesian, Halaal or Polish, or just have a sweet tooth, they have got everyone covered. Nobody will go home hungry.

Street entertainers and live performers add life and vibe to Perth’s biggest food market, all within a stone’s throw from the city’s shops and malls for that last-minute shop. Entry is free and the venue is wheelchair friendly.

5. Christmas in Concert, His Majesty’s Theatre

If you love your Christmas Carols, start the Christmas celebrations early this year by bringing the family to the Christmas in Concert at the beautiful and historical His Majesty’s Theatre to be held between the 1st and 3rd of December. The talented trio of Sophie Foster, Peter Cumins and Joe Louis Robinson will perform all our favourite Christmas carols and a lot more.

6. Alinta Energy Christmas Pageant, Perth City

On the 3rd of December this year, bring the family to annual Alinta Energy Christmas Pageant to be held through the streets of Perth.

Miles of beautifully decorated floats along with dancers, bands, film, television, fantasy and Christmas characters, and traditionally dressed dancers representing the diverse cultural groups of WA, parade in a festival of colour and sound, to put the whole city into a joyous Christmas mood. A truly wonderful spectacle for the whole family.

A huge effort goes into this event, so if you love a good spectacular, don’t miss it. The full route, road closures and all other details can be found on their website here.

7. Christmas Lights At Wanneroo Botanic Gardens

As if the iconic Wanneroo Botanic Gardens weren’t spectacular enough, when the magic of Christmas arrives and 100 000 twinkling lights are switched on, 5 acres of gardens turn into fairy tale wonderland. Now in its 4th year, the magic Christmas Lights Show at Wanneroo Botanic Gardens just keeps getting better and better.

Treat the family to a unique nature trail among the lit-up trees and shrubbery, and massive 7-metre high Christmas Tree and walk through a giant sparkling Christmas bulb. You can also play a round of Night Mini-Golf with balls that glow in the dark, or have a wonderful meal at their Leapfrogs Restaurant within this magical setting.

A lovely outing for a family to spend an evening taking in the Christmas spirit without breaking the bank.

8. Christmas at the Quarry, City Beach

Whether you’re into Rogers and Hammerstein, the Eagles, Neil Young or Motown, spend a night this festive season at the stunning Quarry Amphitheatre, while local and international artists belt out your favourite tunes under the stars.

Pack a picnic basket, blanket and a chair and spend an evening of fun at this magnificent outdoor venue.

9. Find Amazing Christmas Light Displays Near You

If you’re not keen on rushing to the city to check out the Christmas light displays this year, go for a spin in the car or on foot and check what you can find around your suburb. With so many private homes competing with each every year, chances are you will not have to go too far to find some dazzling Christmas light displays.

Some that really go to town every year, can be found in Myamba Court and Sherlock Rise in Carramar, Pontiac and Williamson Avenues in Cloverdale, Kirn Close in Willeton, Warrina Place in Armadale, and Alkimos Beach in the northern suburbs. These homeowners put up some of the most dazzling Christmas light displays last year, and I’m sure they will outdo themselves again this festive season.

10. Catch A Christmas Movie Outdoors, venues across Perth

Why not spend a warm balmy night catching a Christmas movie at any of the outdoor movie venues we have in and around Perth? With so many outdoor cinemas to choose from, there will be no shortage of Christmas-themed movies suitable for the whole family.

Summer pop up outdoor movie venues include Rooftop Movies, Moonlight Cinema and Community Cinemas.
